Determined to maintain their unofficial title as the coolest band in the world, the Foo Fighters recently brought a lucky fan up on stage to sing a song with them and the results were astounding, to say the least.

At a show in Edmonton, Canada on Wednesday, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl pulled Brian Roberts, a field service technician for a construction company, up on stage to perform lead vocals for a cover of beloved Canadian power trio Rush’s seminal hit, ‘Tom Sawyer.’ To the amazement of everyone in attendance — and especially Grohl, as evidenced by his enormous grin in the video— Roberts not only knew every word to the song but gave Rush vocalist Geddy Lee a run for his money with a respectable rendition, complete with high note heroics.

Speaking to CBC News, Roberts was understandably elated about the experience. “It was a very epic experience”, says Roberts. “I was nervous pretty much the whole time. ‘Don’t screw the song up, don’t screw the song up.’ I think I mixed some of the lyrics up there but I just about nailed ‘er bang on.”

Judging by his comments to the crowd as Roberts left the stage, Grohl felt that Roberts had “nailed ‘er” too. “Holy s–t …what was that? Dude, are you human? How did you f—ing hit those notes? He must have been neutered. I don’t even know how to follow that s–t.” Grohl likely had the chance to go into more detailed praise after the show, as he invited Roberts to join the band for a beer backstage after show.
