Earlier this month Pittsburg native Mac Miller tragically passed away at the young age of 26 after an apparent overdose. On September 12 during an episode of Open Late with Peter Rosenberg, Complex honored the late rapper in an emotional 2-hour video with special guests Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore, MGK, Ty Dolla $ign, and Lil Xan. Rosenberg was joined in-studio by Jeff and Eric Rosenthal, Smoke DZA, and Craig Jenkins.
The outpouring of support since the late rapper death has been truly amazing, but of all the tributes shared, I thought Kendrick Lamar said it best.
“Always made you feel good, just a great energy to have around. He’ll pull up to the studio, give honest opinions. I’d play music, he’d say, ‘I like that. You should do something right here.’ Just whatever, man, and he was just true and selfless about it. Great musician. Great writer. Just always had a smile on his face and that’s something I command. No matter what he was going through, he didn’t make you feel sorry for him, you know, he was strong about it.”
In wake of Mac’s death, stars like Childish Gambino, Drake, Elton John, and others have stopped concerts and dedicated shows to the late rapper, but it was J. Cole’s tribute that hit home the most.
