When Dave Grohl broke his leg at a concert in Sweden a few weeks, there was some concern that the Foo Fighters would have to cancel the rest of their tour. Turns out Grohl wouldn’t allow that to happen, and came up with the perfect solution.
Although the band did have the cancel a couple of dates immediately after the injury, they played at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on the weekend, on the Fourth of July even. Rather than hobble around in his cast, Grohl sat atop an epic rock throne clearly inspired by HBO’s Game of Thrones. In the middle of the show, he explained how the throne came to be, complete with stage lights, pieces of guitars, and a giant “FF” logo behind him.
So I took a couple Oxys – don’t touch that sh*t – and I drew a picture. I said “you know what, if we’re gonna go out and do that Washington, D.C. show …” I was high as a f*cking kite when I drew that picture! I said “I’m not missing that show for the world, you build me that throne and we’ll play Washington, D.C.”
There you have it. Grohl was floating on Oxycontin when he got the idea. They even showed his rough sketch for the throne on the big screen:
Just another example of Dave Grohl being a ridiculously awesome human being.
