By most accounts, Ben Affleck’s take on Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a hit and might very well be the best take on the character yet in live action. Naturally, we’re anxious to see Affleck expand his take on the character in a solo movie, but recent comments from the actor suggest that we may have to wait a good while before seeing a new solo film from the Dark Knight.
Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Affleck revealed that he believes it’s still too soon for a new Batman solo film because not enough time has passed since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy:
“[Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice] isn’t, to me, a stand-alone Batman movie. Batman’s in it, and I think that’s okay. But I wouldn’t do another just Batman movie right on top of Chris and Christian’s movies. I would just want a little more distance.”
Affleck, who is currently attached to direct the next Batman film in addition to starring and writing, has made comments in the past that suggest that he has been hesitant to commit to the film fully, as he is still busy handling directing duties on next year’s Live By Night, so it’s not exactly been a secret that we’d have to wait a few years for a Batman solo film.
Given that Batman is one of Batman v Superman’s few saving graces at this point though, Warner Bros. could very well reconsider letting everyone wait for Nolan’s films to fade from memory and get Affleck to work as soon as possible.
