In case you hadn’t heard, Sony is remaking the classic Robin Williams comedy/adventure flick Jumanji. Only this time it stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black being transported to a jungle after firing up an ancient video game system in their school basement.
Unlike the original, this re-make involved a group of unfortunate teens being transported into a magical video game and not a board game. Also, in the first film the board game brought the jungle to the real world (and not the other way around), making for cool scenes like a stampede of elephants rampaging down a city street. The added gimmick of video game characters, each with a unique special power and a set of three lives, should create some interesting moments.
Still, this re-make looks different enough that it could still be a fun summer movie. Plus The Rock has enough to charisma to carry almost any film. There’s also a slightly different International Trailer, which you can see here.
The film will hit theaters December 22, 2017.
