Although it’s been rumored for quite awhile that a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel was in the works at Warner Bros, the studio has never actually confirmed anything. A semi-sequel did indeed arrive earlier this year in the form of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it now looks like a standalone Superman movie will see the light of day.
As The Wrap reports, Warner Bros. has begun actively developing a sequel to Man of Steel. Although no further details were provided, the report does mention that “Superman is a top priority for the studio and getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance.”
It’s interesting that the report mentions that Warner Bros feels they need to “get the character right for audiences,” as it shows that the studio is actively aware of the criticisms Henry Cavill’s version of the hero has received in both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. I can only assume this means that Warner Bros. will be doubling down on portraying a more heroic and aspirational Superman than the mopey, reluctant hero we’ve been presented with so far in the DC Movie Universe.
I like the sound of Man of Steel 2 already.
