Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn’t arrive in theatres until for another two years, which is a tough pill to swallow but thanks to Vin Diesel, we can now confirm James Gunn’s third Guardians movie will feature an all-new version of Groot, called “Alpha Groot.”
During a recent interview with Comicbook.com to promote the upcoming release of Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot – which arrives in theatres on March 13, 2020 – Diesel was asked about the status of long-awaited third Guardians of the Galaxy movie and the actor didn’t disappoint. Despite remaining pretty tightlipped throughout the interview, the Fast & Furious star let it slip that we’ll be seeing a much different Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“I only have two words about that character and it is ‘Alpha Groot.”
The actor went on to reveal that following the events of Avengers: Endgame, characters from Guardians of the Galaxy will be appearing in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder and that he can’t wait for Gunn to return to the MCU.
“I am waiting and excited for my friend James Gunn to knock this next one out of the park. He took The Suicide Squad so he’s about to embark on it. Thor will also, the director talked to me about Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy. That’ll be very interesting, nobody knows, maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”
