Tom Holland is trading in his web-shooters for a pistol in the upcoming Uncharted movie, which we can confirm will officially begin shooting next month. We know very little is about the movie thus far, but what we can tell you is the video game adaptation is being directed by Ruben Fleischer and stars Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. If everything goes according to schedule, Uncharted will arrive in theatres on March 5, 2021.

While speaking with IGN to promote the upcoming release of Pixar’s Onward – which arrives in theatres on March 6, 2020 – the Spider-Man star praised everyone involved and says the film will draw inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

“One of my favorite video games ever is the fourth Uncharted game… And lots of inspiration for the film has come from that game in particular… When I sat down with [Sony Chairman] Tom Rothman, and we were talking about video games and I was like ‘I’ve just finished Uncharted’, and he was like ‘Well, why don’t you play Nathan Drake?’ And I remember being like ‘I would do anything to play Nathan Drake’…”

Developed by Naughty Dog and released in 2016, Uncharted 4 follows former treasure hunter Nathan Drake as he comes out retirement to help his estranged brother Samuel search for the location of Henry Avery’s long-lost treasure.

Even though A Thief’s End will act as inspiration for the film, during an earlier interview with IGN, Holland alluded to the film being unlike any video game movie because it will actually have an original story.

“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.”

What are your thoughts on Tom Holland playing Nathan Drake? Do you think the movie will be a success or with it fall victim to the video game curse? Let us know in the comments below.
