There Will Be A New ‘Star Wars’ Film Every Year, If Disney Has Its Way

As long as audiences buy tickets, the Star Wars train is never going to stop, as far as Disney is concerned.

A new feature in Wired (it’s really worth a read) makes note of the fact that Disney and Lucasfilm currently have six Star Wars films coming out over the next six years, but that they will go far beyond that as long as the interest is there.

“If the people at the Walt Disney Company, which bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion in 2012, have anything to say about it, the past four decades of Star Wars are merely prologue,” writes Wired’s Adam Rogers. “They are making more. A lot more.”

Rogers goes on to make note that with the sheer volume of films Disney is looking to make, if you were alive at the the time the original film came out, the series will continue on long after you’re gone. After all, they are interesting in branding Star Wars as an “infinite series.”

If Star Wars can sustain the kind of hype The Force Awakens has been getting over the past year, Disney should have no problem making this ambitious goal a reality.
