The Rock’s ‘Jumanji’ Reboot Looks Nothing Like The Original

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has so many projects on the go right now, we had totally forgotten that he’s also starring in that Jumanji remake that’s being made for some reason. Now, Johnson’s co-star Kevin Hart has shared the first look of the full cast from the first day of shooting and it’s safe to say that the new Jumanji doesn’t seem to have much in common with the 1995 original … but it still looks like it could work.

For starters, the cast looks great: you have Johnson playing “Explorer Rock,” a.k.a. a beefier Indiana Jones; Karen Gillan looks like a redheaded Lara Croft; Kevin Hart is doing … something; while Jack Black looks like Safari Winston from Overwatch. With Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) attached to direct, Jumanji looks like it has a good chance of being more 21 Jump Street than Robocop; as in, a reboot that honors the original while doing something unique and playful with the established formula.

In other words, let’s just let The Rock handle every reboot from here on out, since his Baywatch movie looks like a blast too.
