The most iconic (and disturbing) story of Batman versus The Joker is being made into an animated movie. That part isn’t news, as we’ve been excited for a film version of The Killing Joke ever since it was first announced.

With Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill already confirmed as returning to voice Batman and The Joker, respectively, this is the adaptation that many comic fans have been longing for. If you haven’t already read The Killing Joke, the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, you should stop reading this immediately and go find a copy. The 1988 one-shot comic is considered the definitive Joker story, and was the inspiration for the much darker and more frightening Joker played by Heath Ledger in the The Dark Knight movie. That trend looks set to continue with Jared Leto’s version of the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad film.

We won’t spend any more time talking about the story itself, but DC Comics have released the first teaser trailer of Batman’s “one very bad day.”

If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a 10-minute long behind-the-scene sneak preview, where the people who worked on the film talk about bringing a famous comic to the animated screen. It’s definitely worth a watch, but beware for those who haven’t read the comic — it’s spoiler heavy. But it does offer a bit more detail about the upcoming release, which is slated only for sometime in 2016, without a more specific release date.
