The new Justice League trailer is comprised primarily of shots showcasing the film’s various heroes in action, but there are a number of brief shots that show that the film will be exploring the background of each character, especially newcomers like Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash.
One scene that is of particular note is the shot of Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) visiting his father (played by Watchmen’s Billy Crudup) in prison. While this shot may seem inconsequential to some — oh great, The Flash has daddy issues too — fans of the character recognize the significance of this inclusion .. and that it seemingly confirms the existence of one of the Scarlet Speedster’s biggest enemies in the DC Movie Universe.
If you watch The Flash TV series, you’re no doubt already familiar with the Reverse-Flash, who is responsible for the death of Barry Allen’s mother. The villain’s actions resulted in Barry’s father being framed for the murder, which is why we see him in prison in the trailer. While there’s a very good chance that the Reverse-Flash will be the main villain of The Flash solo movie (whenever that finally gets back on track), the prison shot in Justice League would suggest that we may even see a flashback to the night when Barry’s life changed forever.
Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.
