‘The Division’ Is Officially Becoming A Movie

Ubisoft announced this morning that its popular online shooter/RPG hybrid, Tom Clancy’s The Division, is being adapted into a movie, joining the studio’s other movie projects Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs.

It’s also been confirmed that the film will feature Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain in lead roles. This follows Variety’s report from last month that a Division movie was in the works, with Gyllenhaal set to star and produce. It’s unclear what roles Gyllenhaal and Chastain will play in the film.

“Attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film,” Matt Phelps, vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, said in a statement.

Ubisoft’s first foray into the motion picture business, Assassin’s Creed, comes out this December, but the publisher has been making a push into the market for the past three years. That film’s studio partner, New Regency, is also collaborating with Ubisoft on Watch Dogs and a Splinter Cell adaptation.

Tom Clancy’s The Division was released in March on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC, quickly breaking the record for the biggest first week sales for a new video game franchise.
