The Cast Of Batman ’66 Are Returning For A New Animated Movie

Holy why didn’t this happen sooner, Batman?

A little over a year ago, Adam West revealed that he and Burt Ward would be reprising their roles as Batman and Robin, respectively, in a new animated feature. Now, Warner Bros. has finally released the first footage for that film, titled Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders.

Featuring the voices of West, Ward, and former Catwoman Julie Newmar, Return of the Caped Crusaders will be out this fall, but Entertainment Weekly has published the debut trailer. The best part? It goes into some fourth wall-breaking territory when Batman starts explaining to Robin what the Dynamic Duo will be up to in the very film they’re a part of.

According to the West’s Caped Crusader, the film will pit Batman and Robin against the Joker, the Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman (sadly, everyone other than Catwoman will have a new voice actor to replace the departed Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, and Burgess Meredith). Oh and it will be set partly in space too!

This already feels like a great companion piece to next year’s Lego Batman Movie, which also features a delightfully irreverent tone.  Mark your calendars for October 13th when Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders becomes available for digital download (the Blu-Ray will be released November 1st).
