Tessa Thompson Confirms Christian Bale Is Joining ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

After months of speculation, we can officially confirm Christian Bale will play an unknown antagonist in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, making Havey Dent’s iconic Dark Knight line, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain,” that much sweeter.

While speaking with ET’s Leanne Aguilera while on the red carpet of the season 3 premiere of Westworld – which returns on March 15, 2020 – Tessa Thompson revealed she has read Waititi’s script and confirmed Bale will play the primary “villain” in Love and Thunder.

“Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic. I’ve read the script. I can’t tell you much. Lots of exciting text messages exchanged between Natalie and I. We’re going to have fun. Taika is writing [and] directing. Some familiar faces. Some new people coming into the mix.”

A few months back rumors of Bale joining the fourth Thor film surfaced and at the time, many believed he was being eyed to play Beta Ray Bill, Dario Agger (Minotaur), Ares, Gorr the God Butcher or possibly Cul Borson. It wasn’t until BossLogic posted his take of the former Batman actor as the villainous Mephisto that we were completely sold. As you can see below, Bale as Mephisto is perfect and if we’re being honest, it’s about time the extra-dimensional demon made his MCU debut.
