‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Almost Killed Off One Of Its Best Characters

One of the greatest joys of Star Wars: The Force Awakens can be found in the film’s characters, who are almost universally awesome in their own unique ways. That’s why it’s so surprising to find out that J.J. Abrams almost killed one of the film’s best.

In a special feature on the upcoming Blu-ray release of the film (hitting stores on April 5) called “Poe Comes Back,” Abrams and star Oscar Isaac dig into the character of Poe Dameron. As it turns out, when Isaac was initially approached to play Poe, the script called for the character to be killed off early on in the film. Understandably, Isaac wasn’t too thrilled about this news, but fortunately, Abrams eventually changed his mind.

It feels like The Force Awakens only scratched the surface of Poe as a character, so we’re glad Abrams decided to keep Poe around, and can’t wait to see what adventures the cocky X-Wing pilot takes part it in next year’s Episode VIII and (hopefully) beyond.
