According to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Mads Mikkelsen, the upcoming Star Wars spin-off may have more of a family dynamic than the film’s first trailer let on.
The actor’s role in the film is still shrouded in mystery — he was nowhere to be found in the trailer — but while talking to Sky News this week, Mikkelsen let slip that his character will have a very close connection with Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.
“I read the script and it was very beautiful, and Felicity is playing this lovely, strong woman and I play her father,” he said, before realizing his mistake, “And that was too much. I’m sorry.”
Uh oh. Disney and Lucasfilm probably didn’t want to let that detail get out this early, but at least Mikkelsen was able to hold his tongue when pressed by the interviewer to confirm whether or not the rumors of Darth Vader making an appearance in Rogue One are true, replying, “Yes I can, but I won’t.”
Additionally, Mikkelsen also briefly touched on his role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, where he was plays a mystery character (this guy is having quite a year, isn’t he?). “I believe I’m allowed to say that I play an opponent,” he said. “Not really a baddie, but someone who believes in something else that Doctor Strange believes in.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story releases on Dec. 16, while Doctor Strange is set for a Nov. 4 debut.
