‘Star Wars’ Execs Want to Bring Back Saw Gerrera in Future Spinoffs

Saw Gerrera has been part of the Star Wars cannon for a while now, first appearing in the animated TV series The Clone Wars in Season Five. He was recently brought to life on the big screen by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One, and Whitaker will continue to do voice work for the character when he appears in Season Three of Star Wars Rebels, another animated series.

If the people in charge at Disney/Lucasfilms get their way, the leader of the Onderon rebels will have future appearances in the Star Wars universe as well. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently told Empire magazine that Gererra originally had a much larger role in Rogue One, and she hopes to bring him back for more screen time in the future.

To be honest, we originally thought we were going to develop Saw into something much larger, but we couldn’t accommodate it. So he is not in the movie as much as we would like to have him in the movie, which creates the opportunity to explore his character even further in our future development.

Disney has more spinoffs and solo movies planned, likely including some that haven’t even been announced yet, so it’s possible that Whitaker could reprise the role in a future project.
