Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Wants To Make An Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie

When it comes to Obi-Wan Kenobi, the wise and beloved Jedi Master of the Star Wars franchise, there are two distinct chapters in his story (at least in the movies): his time spent fighting in the Clone Wars and his fateful journey to the Death Star with Luke Skywalker. The thing is, there is about two decades separating the prequels from the original trilogy, so there’s more to Obi-Wan’s story that hasn’t made its way to the big screen. Fortunately, it sounds like Ewan McGregor is ready to jump on that train if it arrives.

During a recent red carpet event in France for his upcoming film American Pastoral, McGregor was asked whether or not he would want to return to play Obi-Wan again and the actor gave an enthusiastic response. “It would be fun to film that story now I’m older,” he said. “I’d be the right age. I’m 45, Alec Guinness was what, 60? I could do two of them!”

Although McGregor actually provided a brief bit of dialogue as Obi-Wan during Rey’s vision in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the actor emphasized in the same interview that “there are no plans” right now and that “no one approached me.” Still, with Disney’s current trend of releasing a new Star Wars movie every year, it seems like only a matter of time before they release a dedicated Obi-Wan Kenobi story, and from the sounds of it, McGregor is ready to answer the call no matter what age he is. In fact, he’s even got some ideas for what those movies might look like tonally: “What is good with Star Wars is that it is very extensive. They have a kind of carte blanche to do stories in this universe that are completely different,” he said. “Hopefully they will explore different genres under the banner ‘Star Wars,’ and one of them could be a feature film Obi-Wan Kenobi. Or two! Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”

Disney: whatever you do, please keep those exact titles.
