Warning: this post contains spoilers for both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Although Han Solo was the only major character to die at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there was another who came pretty close. John Boyega’s Stormtrooper-turned-Resistance-fighter Finn got beaten pretty badly in a lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren, suffering a near-fatal injury in the process. When we last see him at the end of the movie, Finn is unconscious and receiving a friendly farewell from his good friend Rey as she sets off on a new adventure. One of the biggest questions left open at the end of The Force Awakens is how Finn will recover from his injuries and it looks like we finally have the answer thanks to a scoop from Making Star Wars.
The Star Wars news site is reporting that Episode VIII will show Finn recovering in a bubble suit reportedly called a bacta suit. Bacta is a substance in the Star Wars universe that can heal and regrow body tissue and we saw Luke Skywalker go through something similar back in The Empire Strikes Back. There is a scene that shows Finn being cut or removed from the suit, where he emerges in better health than ever before. Afterwards, he sets off on a new mission for the Reistance. Unfortunately, that’s all we know at this time.
Here’s what the bacta suit will apparently look like (although the final design is supposed to be clear):
