Spider-Man: Homecoming

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Will Feature An Obscure Villain From Spidey’s Past

It’s already been confirmed that Spider-Man: Homecoming will pit Marvel’s wall-crawler up against Michael Keaton’s Vulture, but it appears that he’ll have to contend with another villain that is a true deep cut pick.

Deadline is reporting that Michael Chernus (Cal from Orange Is The New Black) has been cast as the Tinkerer, who hasn’t been heard from much since his debut in the Spider-Man comics of the ’60s. The Tinkerer is an old man who runs a junk shop that is actually a front for his real business: building weapons for supervillains and other criminals who take on Spider-Man.

The safe assumption is that the Tinkerer will be the one who builds the Vulture’s tech in the film, as he has been known to help the Vulture out in the comics.  The real question is how significant the character’s role will be. Considering Homecoming already has a main villain, it’s likely that Chernus will just be playing a minor supporting role here as a way of fleshing out the third live action Spider-Man in fourteen years’ rogues gallery.
