You may remember Sean Bean from such onscreen deaths as “getting crushed by a giant satellite dish in Goldeneye” and “being shot by Christian Bale while reading Yeats in Equilibrium.” You’re also probably aware of several viral memes bearing his likeness:

Of course, Bean is a well-regarded actor who can be depended on to elevate pretty much anything he’s in (did you see Jupiter Ascending? The film is slightly more tolerable thanks to his presence), but even he admits that his inclusion in several of the internet’s most well-known memes will probably end up being what he’s most known for. Speaking to Radio Times recently, the actor referenced both his predilection for dying all the time and providing the internet with go-to quotes:

“I have died quite a few times to be fair,” the star says in this week’s Radio Times, admitting to having watched montages of his characters’ deaths on YouTube. “I’ve seen that reel of clips – it sounds a bit macabre, but I watched that back, and I’d forgotten some of the scenes I’d died in.”

“For some reason, the parts I play, like Boromir or Ned Stark, have a life online long afterwards. I keep seeing, what do you call them – memes? ‘One does not simply ask for a drink’ instead of ‘One does not simply walk into Mordor’ – that sort of thing,” he says, adding: “They’ll probably be my unintended legacy.”

Good to see Bean is in good spirits about the whole thing. Hopefully he still has a few memes left in him before he’s done.
