If you thought Darkseid would be the main villain in next year’s Justice League film, new rumors suggest that you’d be dead wrong … well, mostly.
According to a scoop from Birth.Movies.Death (who are usually pretty reliable with this sort of thing), the main villain in Zack Snyder’s Justice League will actually be Steppenwolf and not Darkseid. As it turns out, that monster that Lex Luthor meets in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is actually Steppenwolf, a revelation that BMD points out is rather odd considering he looks nothing like Steppenwolf from the DC Comics universe.
For those unfamiliar with Steppenwolf, he’s Darkseid’s uncle and the military leader of Apokolips. He also has a sweet energy axe and rides a hoverbike, two elements that we really hope make the transition to Snyder’s film (even if there’s not much hope of that happening). In a recent “New 52” comic arc, Steppenwolf invades Earth, which would seem to be the story that Warner Bros is drawing on for Justice League.
Although Darkseid isn’t the main threat in Justice League, he will make an appearance at the end of the film, setting up a future conflict between him and Earth’s heroes in Justice League 2.
