The character list for Spider-Man: Homecoming is already getting a bit out of hand, as the film will not only feature Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, but will also reportedly have at least three villains (Vulture, the Tinkerer, and Shocker). According to a new report from Bleeding Cool, an obscure character from 90s era Marvel Comics could also be added to that list.
The report indicates that Sony employees (remember, Sony is still the distributor for Spider-Man: Homecoming) have been buying up all comic books that feature the character Nightwatch, a time-travelling hero who first appeared in the Web of Spider-Man series put out back in 1992. As Bleeding Cool notes, past examples of this kind of behavior have served as indication that a character is being planned for an upcoming movie, as employees want to know everything they can about them before discussions can take place.
With Nightwatch’s being so closely associated with Spider-Man, Sony’s interest in the character may mean that they want him for Spider-Man Homecoming. However, with the already huge number of characters who are rumored to be in that film, it’s probably best to not get your hopes up that Spider-Man will be interacting with a time-travelling superhero who looks a lost like Spawn.
