Although he hasn’t been featured in any trailers, it’s been presumed up until now that Jesse Eisenberg would reprise his role as Lex Luthor in Justice League. After all, Warner Bros. confirmed he was in the movie last December in a press release, so why would we think otherwise?
Of course, the film has undergone some changes since then, with director Zack Snyder departing back in May due to a personal emergency and Joss Whedon being brought on to get Justice League to the finish line. And if a new report is to be believed, it looks like Eisenberg no longer figures into the film at all.
In a recent fan Q&A, Batman On Film was asked how big of a role Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor would have in Justice League, to which they replied “He doesn’t have one. If he did prior to all the changes/reshoots, it was cut.”
Now, considering this is coming from a film blog — albeit one with insider knowledge — and not from WB itself, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. Although it comes out in November, Justice League is still in post-production right now and if Eisenberg has a very small scene, it’s possible that he hasn’t even shot it yet. Of course, it’s also possible that his role was so small that it ended up getting cut along the way. It’s hard to say for sure until an official statement is released but for now, it might be best not to get your hopes up of Eisenberg ringing the Justice League bell when the film hits in November (okay, that was a terrible analogy but it did give me an excuse to bring up this ridiculous scene again).
