Next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming will likely be the next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to give us a good idea of what’s going on with the Avengers post-Civil War, as this fall’s Doctor Strange is concerned primarily with a much different part of that universe. We already know that Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man is part of the film’s cast, but a new rumor suggests that another Avenger will be making an appearance as well.
According to ComicBook.com, Scarlett Johansson has been spotted in Atlanta, Georgia. Why is this significant? Spider-Man: Homecoming is being filmed there right now at Pinewood Studios, meaning there’s a possibility that the actress is in town to shoot some scenes as Black Widow. Unfortunately, no visual evidence has yet surfaced showing Johansson at Pinewood and no one has yet seen her in costume, so there’s a good chance she’s in town for something else.
Still, if you think about it, Black Widow being involved in Homecoming would make quite a bit of sense. For one thing, her story was left wide open at the end of Captain America: Civil War, as she’s neither part of Iron Man or Captain America’s team, and seems to be operating on her own now. We’re not sure how she would fit in with Homecoming’s plot exactly, but considering the popularity of the character and the need to establish where her head is at in the lead-up to Avengers: Infinity War, a Black Widow cameo sounds quite believable at this point.
We’ll have more on this story as it developers. Stay tuned …
