WARNING: This post contains POSSIBLE SPOILERS for The Last Jedi
Much of the buzz surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi has focused on Luke Skywalker and Rey, which is said to be the central relationship of the upcoming film. With all the speculation over who the “last Jedi” could be, it’s easy to forget that there’s also a large supporting cast that is sure to be busy with conflicts of their own, including John Boyega’s stormtrooper-turned-Resistance-fighter Finn.
The last time we saw Finn, he had taken a lightsaber to the back in The Force Awakens and was recuperating from his wound at the Resistance’s base of operations. As Making Star Wars reports, Finn is not only going to get better in The Last Jedi, he’s also going to set out on a daring mission of his own.
According to the report, Finn’s objective involves infiltrating a First Order Super Star Destroyer alongside Kelly Marie Tran’s new mystery character (rumored to be an “information broker”). The pair are there to blow the thing up, of course, but not before Finn runs into an old stormtrooper buddy of his, who apparently isn’t yet aware of Finn’s defection and congratulates Finn on his promotion (Finn is undercover in an officer’s uniform). The speculation is that this stormtrooper will be another surprise celebrity cameo (Tom Hardy maybe?), much like Daniel Craig’s appearance in Episode VII. It’s currently unclear whether Finn’s BFF Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is involved in the mission or how much screen time the two will share, but apparently he will be interacting with Laura Dern’s new character, believed to be a political rival of General Leia’s.
Oh and in case you were worried about the Super Star Destroyer plot pointing to yet another huge superweapon that needs to be blown up plot, it’s already been confirmed that there will be no new Starkiller Base or other planet-destroying weaponry involved this time out.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on Dec. 15. Hopefully we get a trailer soon …
