Ron Perlman On Hellboy 3: ‘I Feel Like I’m Done With The Character”

You may recognize Ron Perlman more recently from his role as Clay Morrow in Sons of Anarchy or from the mega-budget film Pacific Rim from 2013. Or literally dozens of other acting credits — he’s a busy guy.

Hardcore fans of comic movies will also know that he has played iconic demon-turned-superhero Hellboy in the first two movies by Guillermo del Toro. The last of those (Hellboy II: The Golden Army) was released in 2008, and there aren’t any solid plans to finish the trilogy.

However, when the subject of a third Hellboy film was brought up to Perlman by Collider, he said that he might not have any choice but to suit up again:

“I really feel as though I’m done with the character. I don’t have a burning desire to put that sh*t on again. But Guillermo told me what the resolve of the trilogy would look like, in broad strokes, and it’s such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea, that I found it essential that we do it. We were designed to be a trilogy, with a beginning, a middle and an end. We’ve only done two-thirds, so I feel that we’re not really done until we finish it.”

When del Toro told him the details of a third movie, Perlman basically agreed that making the movie was “non-negotiable,” adding that “it would be a shame if we don’t do it.”

There aren’t any hard plans (ie, funding) for this project yet. If it does end up happening, Perlman will have to put himself through four hours of make-up every morning before shooting can begin. But it’s a sacrifice he’s willing to make for the fans.
