Guardians of the Galaxy may have originally been seen as an offshoot Marvel movie, not up to par with the Iron Man or Avengers blockbusters of the world. But once it actually came out in theaters, fans quickly fell in love with the band of lesser-known, quirky comic book characters.
Led by Star Lord (Chris Pratt) and Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), the Guardians are set to make a return to the silver screen in May 2017 with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Not much is known about the plot yet, although director James Gunn has confirmed that Kurt Russell will join the cast as Star Lord’s father — something that will surely be important. But Peter Quil isn’t the only character who will face deep, important questions.
According to Sean Gunn, who plays minor character Kraglin in both films and also does motion capture for Rocket Racoon (and also happens to be the brother of the director), Rocket will start to question his role in the group.
“Rocket has a lot of great stuff to do in this movie,” said Sean, according to ComicBook.com. “There are a few relationships that are central to the theme of the movie and that really go towards keeping a family… and Rocket has the same sort of crisis of faith about whether or not he belongs in this family.”
Guardians Vol. 2 will feature a returning cast of Star Lord, Rocket Racoon, Drax, Gamora, and Groot. It will also be introducing new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like Mantis, Ayesha, and Ego the Living Planet.
