While everyone has their preferences, it’s safe to say that the overall response to Spider-Man’s suit in Captain America: Civil War was positive, as the design was a throwback of sorts to Steve Ditko’s drawing of the character.
With suit upgrades being a regular occurrence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and when you’re Iron Man, you get a new suit about once every fifteen minutes — it’s hardly a surprise to learn that Tom Holland’s Spidey will be getting a few upgrades of his own in Spider-Man: Homecoming. What is surprising is what those upgrades are going to look like.
During the Spider-Man: Homecoming panel earlier today at CCPX, a comics convention in Brazil, attendees were treated to never-before-seen footage from the film. Reports indicate that the footage was really more of a teaser for the upcoming trailer (rumored to be attached to theatrical screenings of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Ryan Penagos, or Agent M from Marvel, witnessed the footage firsthand and shared his reaction on Twitter, where he gave away one of Spider-Man’s secret suit upgrades:
There's a case from Tony Stark with an "upgrade" for Spidey. Then we see Spidey leap off a building, open his arms, web wings! #ccxp2016 2/?

That’s right, Spider-Man is taking flight with a pair of web wings. The wings have actually been with the character since the very first issue back in 1962, but were put there by Ditko merely as an aesthetic choice and served no practical purpose. The wings were eventually abandoned, which is why we’re so used to seeing Spider-Man without them. Seeing as how Spidey’s wings come from Tony Stark in Homecoming, it’s safe to assume that these new ones are going to serve an actual function.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7, 2017.
