After Spectre, Daniel Craig made it pretty clear to anyone (and everyone) that asked that he was finished playing iconic English spy James Bond. After all, he’s been donning the Bond tuxedo since 2005’s Casino Royale and the filming was often grueling, with all the action and stunt sequences the franchise is known to churn out.
However, a new report from Page Six suggests that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has been trying to convince Craig to come back for one more movie. According to an unnamed source, Broccoli has “just about persuaded Daniel Craig to do one more Bond movie.” Part of persuasion was helping Craig produce an off-Broadway production of Othello, a pet project of his.
A Hollywood source said, “Daniel was very pleased with how ‘Othello’ went and the great reviews. Now Daniel’s talks with Barbara are going in the right direction. They have a script — screenwriting duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade [who’ve penned several Bond movies] are writing and they’ll go into production as soon as Daniel is ready to commit.”
It was thought that Tom Hiddleston (Thor, The Avengers) was the odds-on-favorite to replace Craig as Agent 007, although Idris Elba was also supposedly in the running. However, there are now whispers that Broccoli doesn’t think Hiddleston is “tough enough” to play the suave superspy.
