Paul Rudd is one of the most charming comedic actors working today, but the Ant-Man star failed to impress co-star Michael Douglas with his on-set antics.
Recounting the incident to Jimmy Fallon on Monday’s Tonight Show, Rudd explained how he tried hard to hit it off with Douglas while the two were shooting Ant-Man and thought recreating Sharon Stone’s revealing scene from Basic Instinct, a film Douglas co-starred in, would sufficiently break the ice. “We were doing a close-up, and I thought, you know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna Basic Instinct him. When he’s speaking, I’m sitting in a chair across from him, and I’m going to, you know.”
Unfortunately, Rudd’s performance didn’t elicit a laugh so much as a stern dismissal from the older actor, who apparently was not in the mood for such a joke: “I should’ve just stopped, and I didn’t, and it looked like I was basically pleasuring myself to Michael Douglas giving a monologue,” Rudd explained. “He just stopped and just looked at me and said, ‘What are you, a f—ing pervert?’ No smiles.”
The moral of the story? Don’t you dare come on to Michael Douglas while he’s trying to deliver his lines.
