Only “The Power Of Money” Would Convince Michael J. Fox To Go Back To The Future Again

As this year marks the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, the franchise is experiencing a big wave of nostalgia-inflated interest. Naturally, one of the questions on a lot of fans’ minds is whether a new film is in the works and if so, if any of the original film’s cast would return. Seeing as how Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford are reprising roles they haven’t played in 32 years for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the end of the year, a new Back to the Future doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.

Well, unless a DeLorean filled with money is rolled up to his door, don’t expect Michael J. Fox to be reprising his role of Marty McFly anytime soon. Reportedly, Fox told an audience at London Film And Comic-Con that it would take a considerable amount of money for him to get back behind the wheel of the time-travelling sports car:

The money it would take to get me back into the DeLorean again is a lot…I wish I had a video, a gag reel of how many times I was hit by that freakin’ door, the DeLorean door. Take after take, it would go, whack! It was the worst thing to drive. It had two gears and I slammed the door, and my hand would smash into the flux capacitor. My hand would be bleeding, my head would be bleeding…and I had to clean it off to get to the Family Ties set.

If the model of car is the only real barrier, perhaps the producers of a theoretical Back to the Future sequel could lure Fox back with a more comfortable replacement to the DeLorean. Then again, the iconic vehicle might be considered by some fans to be more integral to the franchise than its lead actor, in which case the producers would have a fan mutiny on their hands. At least we’ll always have the memories.
