The major selling point of Captain America: Civil War was easily the prospect of seeing our favorite Marvel heroes battle it out against one another on screen and it’s fair to say that the film delivered on this promise in spades. It felt like each hero had a good reason for joining with either Captain America or Iron Man, but at the same time, it’s not surprising to hear that one of Captain America’s allies could have been rooting for the other team.

As reported by Comicbook.com, concept art from Andy Park, a Visual Development Supervisor at Marvel Studios, seems to indicate that Ant-Man, a.k.a. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) was on Team Iron Man at one point in the film’s development.

The painting depicts Ant-Man (as Giant-Man) attempting to strike Captain America down, which indicates that Marvel at least tossed around the idea of the character being part of Iron Man’s team. Ultimately, the studio decided to stick Lang on Team Cap, providing us with some of the film’s most delightful moments as Ant-Man geeks out over getting to meet Captain America. Iron Man’s team already has enough comedians as it is (Iron Man, War Machine, Spider-Man), so it’s probably for the best that Ant-Man was put on Cap’s team to help balance out the more serious-minded members (Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, Cap himself).

Do you think Marvel ultimately got the teams right or would you have preferred to see Ant-Man join up with Tony Stark’s squad? Let us know in the comments below!
