Olivia Munn Explains Why She Chose ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Over ‘Deadpool’

Before being cast as Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, which hits theaters later this month, Olivia Munn could starred in another big Marvel film, but ultimately turned it down.

As Munn Tells American Way magazine, she ultimately chose to star in X-Men over Deadpool because she’s tired of being cast as eye candy and wanted a role that would give her a chance to do some action scenes.

“I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ‘Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.'”

The role that Munn was offered in Deadpool, which ultimately went to Morena Baccarin, would have been more of a side role, so Munn’s decision to go with the film that allowed her to both be a superhero and kick butt is very understandable. Munn’s Psylocke definitely looks like one of the best parts of X-Men: Apocalypse (and not just because they did a fantastic job with her costume) so it’s probably safe to say that she made the right choice — even if Deadpool made all the money earlier this year.
