Twenty years ago, Nicolas Cage almost got his chance to play Superman when he was cast in Tim Burton’s ill-fated Superman Lives. While it’s safe to say that we’re probably not going to ever see Cage get another chance given how much time has passed (though the actor did recently get to voice the Man of Steel in Teen Titans Go To The Movies!), the actor has a pretty good consolation prize in mind.
In a new interview with The Guardian to promote his new horror film, Mandy, the Academy Award-winner discussed a number of different moments from his decades-long career, including Superman Lives.
“Oh, I think my Superman days are long gone,” he said whilst patting his stomach, according to The Guardian. Interviewer Hadley Freeman then suggested he could play the villain instead and noted that Cage’s eyes lit up at the idea. “Oh, that would be GREAT! I’d make a great Lex Luthor!”
