The National Treasure movies are one of the more enjoyable series Nicolas Cage has been attached to, but we haven’t seen a new entry since 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Fortunately, it looks like National Treasure 3 could still happen, though it could be awhile before we see anything concrete.

During a recent Walt Disney shareholder meeting, the topic of future National Treasure movies was brought up and this is what Disney CEO Bob Iger had to say:

“We have done two, and yes they were really fine movies. I know Jerry Bruckheimer who produced them has had conversations with our studio a number of times about it, and there have been some developments along the way, but as of right now we have not green-lit as we say, a National Treasure 3. But I do know there is time and some resources spent on development. That’s all I can tell ya.”

It’s a universal truth that Nicolas Cage is always looking for a new film to help pay off his debts, so it seems likely that Disney will try and get the actor back if and when they greenlight National Treasure 3. Frankly, we wouldn’t even want to see it if Cage wasn’t involved, so hopefully Disney can get this thing sorted out sooner rather than later.
