Matthew McConaughey Offered Starring Villain Role In Adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’

The film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower sci-fi fantasy series is eyeing Matthew McConaughey to play a central villain.

Variety is reporting that Sony, which is producing the series of films, have provided McConaughey with the script for the first film, titled “The Gunslinger,” and are waiting to hear whether the actor will accept the role of Walter Padick —aka the Man in Black — a demonic sorcerer who protagonist Roland “The Gunslinger” hunts in the first book.

The Gunglinger is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel and is slated for a January 13, 2017 release. An accompanying TV series developed by MRC is also being made, although it’s doubtful that McConaughey would appear in that too.
