The news of Henry Cavill’s departure from the DCEU was a tough pill to swallow this week, but on a more positive note, it would appear Matt Reeves has finished writing the first draft of The Batman. Fresh of the success of The Planet of the Apes trilogy, Reeves was hired to replace Ben Affleck after he stepped down early last year. Since then, there have been a lot of rumors surrounding the state of the film, the script, and Ben Affleck’s involvement.

Yesterday, as reported by Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap on Twitter, Reeves turned over his draft of The Batman to Warner Bros.

Given that it’s only the first draft, I wouldn’t get too excited just yet, but back in August, as reported by /Film, Reeves was at an event to promote his upcoming Fox drama, The Passage and was asked how The Batman script was coming along, he had this to say:

“We are working on getting our draft [in] the next couple weeks,” Reeves said. “Right now, my head is totally into the script. Right now, I’m going to be leaving here to go back to work on the script.”

Judging by the timeframe of Reeves statement in conjunction with Gonzalez tweet, there’s a strong chance his draft is actually finished and if that’s the case, Reeves statement about the film getting underway in the spring might be a reality.

“What we’ve talked about is hopefully in the spring or early summer, something like that…”

I guess the only question remaining is, who will Reeves cast to play the Dark Knight?
