To the surprise of many, Marvel has officially announced that an Ant-Man sequel is coming much sooner than expected, as Ant-Man and the Wasp is set for a July 6, 2018 release as part of the company’s Phase Three suite of films.
This is a big deal, as this represents the first Marvel film featuring the name of a female hero in its title (Captain Marvel doesn’t land until March 8, 2019). As the title suggests, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) will be joined by The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and should theoretically give equal focus to both superheroes.
The inclusion of a new title into Phase Three means that the release dates of some other scheduled films has been moved around. Black Panther has been moved up to February 16, 2018, as well as Captain Marvel getting pushed from 2018 into 2019.
We really enjoyed Ant-Man and are excited to see what Marvel can bring to the table with the sequel.
