Sometimes it’s easy for characters to become too tightly anchored to the actor that brought them fame. We’ve seen this with Hugh Jackman and Wolverine, for instance, but thankfully this hasn’t really been the case with one of the most popular superheroes around, Batman. That being said, Ben Affleck’s portrayal has proven pretty controversial and many fans of the character wouldn’t exactly mind a recasting at this point.
One name that has come up frequently as a suggestion to replace Affleck is Man Men star Jon Hamm. He’s stated recently in an interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger that he’s a huge comic fan and that depending on the writing, it’s entirely likely he’d accept the role if it was given to him.
“I’d probably fit the suit,” Hamm admits. “I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But, I am sure there is an interesting version of that being out there, and if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it, why not?”
Despite his interest in comics and his obvious acting capabilities, Hamm stated that “I have had rumors about that since probably season one of Mad Men, I have never had a conversation with anyone about it, literally, and I’ve sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the Internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the Internet.”
In other words, while the fan base is there and Hamm has expressed interest, there haven’t been any discussions about the actor playing Batman. However, with DC’s recent shake-ups, you never know what may happen …
