Lupita Nyong’o Reveals New ‘Black Panther’ Character And Plot Details

Marvel’s Black Panther film isn’t coming until 2018, so details are relatively scarce at the moment. However, actress Lupita Nyong’o has revealed some new information that sheds some light on the film’s plot and characters.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con last weekend, Nyong’o revealed that she will be playing Nakia, a member of the Black Panther’s elite unit of female bodyguards called the Dora Milaje.

“The story is that Black Panther’s leadership is being threatened by two foes that come together, so Black Panther gets the help of the CIA and the Dora Jilaje to try and defeat the enemy,” said Nyong’o. She then humorously added: “Oh dear. Someone’s gonna fire me shortly. I have to shut up now.”

Nyong’o’s mention of the CIA is interesting, as it suggests that we’ll probably be seeing Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross, introduced in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year, make an appearance. As for the film’s villains, it’s been confirmed that Michael B. Jordan will play longtime Black Panther nemesis Erik Killmonger, although there is also a second villain whose identity has yet to be confirmed. That being said, the probable candidate right now is Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaw, who was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler, is set to arrive in February 2018 and will star Chadwick Boseman in the title role.
