Lucasfilm President Explains Why There Won’t Be A ‘Rogue One’ Sequel

Lucasfilm will not be developing a direct sequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, no matter how well the film performs at the box office, company president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Kennedy made it clear that a Rogue One sequel is not happening. Picking up on that point, director Gareth Edwards explained that the original Star Wars is effectively the sequel to Rogue One, stating that any followup “will be [has been] directed by George Lucas.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens Dec. 16 in theaters and is tracking to earn $130 million in its opening weekend. We will continue to have coverage for the film leading up to and after release.
