The first trailer for Logan, Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine movie, is brilliant, but it certainly leaves many unanswered questions (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). It’s a trailer that pretty much owes half its effectiveness to the expert use of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” and that’s perfectly fine. That being said, we do get a tease of what Wolverine will be up against in this movie, including the guy above in the sunglasses who runs some sort of mutant-hunting paramilitary outfit.
That’s Boyd Holbrook from Netflix’s Narcos series and he’s pretty much the main bad guy in this trailer, but which character is he playing? According to ScreenRant, Holbrook is playing Donald Pierce, a dangerous mutant-hater created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne during their epic run on the X-Men comics. In Logan, Pierce seems to be heading The Reavers, who in the comics are a group of cyborg supervillains.
Although he’s not seen in the trailers, Mr. Sinister is reportedly the main villain in Logan, but Pierce is probably not far behind (it seems pretty obvious that Pierce is working for Sinister). At any rate, Wolverine, Professor X, and their young mutant companion are going to their hands full with the likes of Pierce and his Reaver goons hunting them down.
Logan hits theaters March 3, 2017.
