Spider-Man was nowhere to be found in Venom, but the Marvel hero could have a cameo in another upcoming spinoff film.
Speaking to Discussing Film, Kraven the Hunter screenwriter Richard Wenk confirmed that he’s writing the film with Spider-Man in mind.
“It’s in the Spider-Man universe. I’m going to adhere very closely to the lore of Kraven the Hunter, and he’s going to come face-to-face with Spider-Man,” Wenk said. “I think that where we’re all circling is that this is Kraven’s Last Hunt, and whether this is the precursor to that movie, whether it will include it, we’re talking about those things. And even the idea that maybe Kraven could be like Kill Bill, basically a two-part movie. It’s all in the mix.”
Kraven’s Last Hunt, which was published in 1987, is arguably the best storyline featuring the character, following Kraven’s final showdown with Spider-Man. Spider-Man is pretty integral to that story, to the point where it’s hard to see how a Kraven movie adapting it would be able to do it without his inclusion, so it makes sense that Wenk is trying to work Spider-Man in anyway he can.
The barrier right now is that Wenk is still quite early in the writing process and things could change at any time. If Sony wouldn’t let Spider-Man make an appearance in Venom, it’s hard to imagine the studio changing their mind for Kraven the Hunter. On the other hand, Kraven isn’t as well-known as Venom, so maybe Spider-Man is essential to help carry the film.
Kraven the Hunter is still quite far out but another Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius, is set to begin filming in early 2019.
