Kevin Smith Calls Thanos A Hero And Backs It Up

During the latest episode of the Fatman on Batman podcast, Kevin Smith and co-host Marc Bernardin were asked by a fan to assemble a team of five heroes and five villains, from any universe, then decide which team would win. Bernardin selected the villains and Smith the heroes but being the jokesters they are, some of their choices had the audience in stitches.

After selecting Jesus with his first pick and Batman with the second, Smith shocked everyone in attendance with his third selection.

“Controversial choice, Thanos. From a certain perspective he’s a hero. He could have literally wiped out everybody with one snap. I call that mercy.”

We all know Smith was attempting to get a laugh while simultaneously stacking the deck, but if you think back to the conversation Doctor Strange and Thanos had during Avengers: Infinity War, he might have a point. During the film, Thanos tells Strange that by harnessing the power of all six Infinity Stones he could easily destroy everything, but because he prefers balance, whipping out half the universe is his way of showing mercy.

If you’re a fan of the show I’m sure you’re already aware that the Fatman on Batman podcast is rebranding and changing its name to Fatman Begins, which will air under its new name for the first time, September 15, 2018 (Batman Day).

For those that don’t have time to watch the video, Kevin’s team consisted of Jesus, Batman, (Good) Thanos, Harry Potter, and Darth Vader, while Bernardin’s chose Satan, Taxes, (Bad) Thanos, Mister Mxyzptlk, and Maximillion from The Black Hole.

So… does Kevin’s team stand a chance against Marc’s team? Is Thanos actually a hero? Let us know in the comments below.
