While everyone is looking forward to seeing DC’s finest come together next year in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, one of the most hotly anticipated performances in that film has to be J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
Simmons is a veteran talent who not only has an Oscar under his belt, but also gave us one of the most memorable comic book character performances ever with his portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. While we still haven’t seen any footage of Simmons in action as Gordon, Snyder tweeted out a picture of Simmons in character over the weekend in celebration of Batman Day:

While it’s difficult to make out specifics, it’s clear that Simmons is taking an old school approach to Gordon based on the Commissioner’s outfit. Considering DC’s costuming has been all over the map in terms of tone and quality so far, it’s refreshing to see that they’re not messing around when it comes to Gordon.
While we’ll have to wait to see actual footage to get a feel for Simmons’ characterization, it feels safe to say at this juncture that Gary Oldman may have a contender on his hands for the best live action Gordon. I for one certainly want to see Justice League even more now just based on this one photo, so mission accomplished Zack!
