Two years after Jesse Eisenberg first played Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the actor is unsure what the plan is for the character in future DC movies.
In an interview with Variety, Eisenberg said he doesn’t know if Lex Luthor will return in the DC film universe, despite making an appearance in the post-credits scene for Justice League. Even still, Eisenberg would love to play the Superman villain again.
“I hope so,” Eisenberg said when asked if Lex Luthor will be part of a future Superman film. “I mean, I have no idea is the truth. I love playing the character. Probably in terms of movie acting, it’s the most enjoyable character I’ve had the opportunity to play. So i would love to do it again. But I don’t know what their slate is.”
While Eisenberg’s brief appearance in Justice League would seem to give the impression that his role had been deliberately trimmed down, the actor confirmed that this was not the case and that he was never meant to have a big role in the superhero ensemble film.
“No, no,” Eisenberg said in response to rumored deleted scenes. “Actually, on the contrary, they added some stuff.”
DC’s upcoming movie slate still feels touch and go after Justice League’s disappointing box office performance last fall, but we do know that Aquaman is opening later this year on December 21, with Wonder Woman 2 to follow in late 2019.
