If Jared Leto ends up reprising his role as The Joker in the DC Extended Universe (as the actor himself admits, “I certainly wouldn’t want to overstay my welcome”), the safe bet is that he’ll be facing off against Ben Affleck’s Batman. But it looks like Leto would also relish the opportunity to pit the Clown Prince of Crime against the Man of Steel.
Speaking with IGN during his promotion tour for Suicide Squad, Leto was asked what his version of The Joker would make of Superman if he ever encountered him and he gave a very Jared Leto answer:
“Ah, ‘Who?’ That would probably be his answer. ‘Super-who? Superboy? He sounds cute. Tights? A Cape?”
“Superman seems like a lot of fun though for the Joker. The Joker and Superman would be interesting to see onscreen because Superman’s so stoic and morally centered. I think that the Joker would really enjoy that. Superman is just the classic hero and the Joker opposite any hero would be really interesting.”
Whether or not Leto continues his run as The Joker over multiple films, it’s likely only a matter of time before we see Superman interact with the villain on screen. It probably won’t end well for one of them though (hint: it’s the guy with “Damaged” tattooed across his forehead).
