J.K. Simmons Finishes Work On ‘Justice League,’ Discusses Commissioner Gordon Role

While DC Comics fans are chomping at the bit to finally see the Justice League together on screen, one of the most anticipated roles in Zack Snyder’s 2017 film is easily J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Simmons, who most comic book fans remember fondly for playing a spot-on J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, recently wrapped up work on Justice League and sat down with ET to discuss his experience of working with Snyder and what fans can expect from Gordon in the character’s DC Extended Universe debut:

“In this first installment of the Justice League, Commissioner Gordon is not a particularly sizable part. We just kind of introduce him and see a little bit of his interactions with Batman — and with most of the Justice League.”

Simmons’ comments may come as a disappointment to fans who were hoping for a more sizable appearance from Gordon, but it’s likely that Warner Bros. wants to give viewers a taste of the character before giving him a lot more to do in Ben Affleck’s upcoming solo Batman film. The reassuring thing is that, by Simmons own admission, he had a great time on Justice League and enjoyed working with Zack Snyder:

“Zack [Snyder] runs sort of a big, happy family and it’s obviously, in many ways, a very different work environment when you’re working on a big, giant movie like that than a relatively small movie like The Meddler. But at the end of the day, the director is the one who sets the tone. And one of the things that Zack and Lorene [Scarfaria, director of The Meddler] have in common is they’re just nice, smart, competent, fun people that you don’t mind spending a 12-hour day with.”

We’ll get to see Simmons in action as the iconic Gotham City Police Commissioner when Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017. In the meantime, you can check out a few other films starring Simmons with La La Land and Patriot’s Day, both of which come out this winter.
